Dry needling in Pinecrest — precise relief for stubborn muscle pain

Trigger-point release performed by a certified Doctor of Physical Therapy — one tool inside a complete treatment plan, not a stand-alone gimmick.

Some muscle pain doesn't stretch out, foam-roll out, or massage out. Trigger points — tight, irritable bands within a muscle — can drive neck pain, back pain, headaches, and that deep ache that keeps coming back. Dry needling reaches them directly.

Using a thin filament needle (no medication — that's the "dry"), a certified Doctor of Physical Therapy releases the trigger point at its source, deeper and more precisely than hands can reach. At Upright, dry needling is one tool inside a complete physical therapy plan that also fixes why the muscle overloaded in the first place.

What it helps

  • Neck and shoulder pain, including desk-posture pain
  • Low back pain and hip tightness
  • Tension-type headaches driven by neck trigger points
  • Tendinitis-related muscle guarding
  • Muscle tightness alongside scoliosis therapy — the overworked side of a curve often responds well
  • Recovery from sprains, strains, and overuse

What a session feels like

Most patients feel a brief cramp or "twitch" when the needle finds the trigger point — that twitch is the release we're after. Soreness afterward is common for a day, similar to a workout. Sessions include the manual therapy, movement re-training, or strengthening that keeps the relief from being temporary.

We often pair needling with cupping, kinesio taping, or instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM/Graston) depending on what your tissue needs.

Dry needling vs. acupuncture

They use similar needles — and stop there. Acupuncture follows traditional meridian theory; dry needling is a Western, anatomy-based technique targeting specific myofascial trigger points identified by physical examination. Here it's performed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy as part of an orthopedic treatment plan.

Common questions

Does it hurt?

The needle itself is barely felt; the twitch response is a quick, odd cramp most patients tolerate easily. Post-session soreness fades within about a day.

How many sessions will I need?

Trigger points often improve noticeably within 2–4 sessions. Because we treat the underlying cause too, needling is usually part of a broader, finite plan — not an indefinite subscription.

Is dry needling legal for PTs in Florida?

Yes — Florida permits dry needling by physical therapists with the required certification, which Dr. Correalima holds.

Can I book dry needling only?

Your first visit is always an evaluation ($250) so needling is safe and aimed at the right target. After that, it's built into your $150 sessions — no separate add-on fees.
